Madeira Drive, Brighton Seafront on Sunday 2nd November 2014

This annual Veteran Car Run takes place on the first Sunday of November and is the longest running motoring celebration event in the world. This year will be the 118th anniversary and provides the opportunity for the participation in an historic 60 mile journey involving extraordinary automobiles. The event commemorates the passing of the Locomotives on the Highway Act in 1896. This date was a red-letter day in the history of British motoring when the first ‘Emancipation Run’ from London to Brighton took place. The passing of the Highway Act raised the speed limit for ‘light locomotives’ to 14 mph from four miles per hour as well as abolishing the legal requirement of being preceded by a man on foot.

The cars are limited to an average speed of 20mph and this event is not a race with the humble reward of a Finisher’s Medal awarded for a successful run to all who reach Brighton before 4.30pm.

This event will be followed by the 75th Annual dinner and an awards ceremony beginning with a drinks reception.
