This year will be the 50th Brighton Festival line up featuring over one hundred and fifty events with many commissions, exclusives and premieres. There will be numerous art forms including books and debates, circus, comedy, classical and contemporary music, dance and theatre. Several of the events are free whilst some can be seen for the ticket price of £10.00 or less. There will be something for everyone to enjoy as well as outdoor performances, family friendly shows and lunchtime events.
One of the free outdoor events will take place on Lavender Street in Kemp Town close to the White House Hotel and is a UK premiere. On Saturday the21st May at 3pm and 6pm French creators Retouramount (Paris) will perform the free outdoor dance performance ‘Clairiere Urbaine’ (Urban Clearing) with dancers populating the empty spaces of the urban jungle. The Brighton festival always begins with the Children’s Parade procession from Kensington Street to Madeira Drive and this year’s theme is Brighton Celebrates. Starting at 10:30am on Saturday 7th May there will be fabulous costumes and thousands of participants from more than eighty community organisations and schools.
The Parade organised by Same Sky and Directed by pioneering artist and musician Laurie Anderson is supported by award winning organic fruit and vegetable box deliverers Riverford Organic Farmers, Class of their Own who provide provision out-of-school and Brighton Dome Café –Bar, Brighton Museum Balcony and Royal Pavilion Music Room.
